74.1 Using the 5620 SAM-O to collect statistics

This chapter is an overview of statistics collection using the 5620 SAM-O interface.

Third-party statistics collection process

A third-party OSS client application can use the following methods to collect

5620 SAM accounting and performance statistics from the 5620 SAM-O interface:

• findToFile—for infrequent, low-volume transfers of statistics data from the

5620 SAM database. The findToFile method can save statistics for multiple NEs

in one file. The 5620 SAM generates a FileAvailableEvent each time that a file is

created using this method.

• registerLogToFile—for creating accounting statistics export files that are based

on specific class types. The 5620 SAM exports the accounting statistics data to a

file after it retrieves the data from an NE, and saves the file in a specified directory

on the main server. The 5620 SAM generates a LogFileAvailableEvent each time

that a file is created using this method, which is asynchronous.

XML methods for transferring statistics files to OSS client applications

Table 74-1 describes the XML methods and the associated parameters that a

5620 SAM-O client can use to retrieve statistics from a 5620 SAM main server.

Note — Alcatel-Lucent recommends that you use the

registerLogToFile method to maintain an up-to-date view of

accounting statistics. Use the findToFile method for infrequent

queries on performance or accounting statistics. Do not use the

findToFile method in large networks with high statistics collection

rates. See the 5620 SAM-O OSS Interface Developer Guide for more

information.
